EINDWINST IN BURKINA FASO 2006

David Verdonck wist op knappe wijze het geel te bemachtigen en ook te behouden. Als Burkina-routinier was het dan ook mijn taak om te zorgen dat we dat geel niet meer kwijtspeelden. Zou ik toch nog een 5e keer teruggaan om nog eens zelf te winnen ?

Distance totale 1270.5 km met 65km zandstroken erin !!!

Among the Belgian riders, the multiple stage winners David Verdonck, Karel Pattyn and Stefaan Roosen, are all capable of victory.

The 18 teams competing in Burkina Faso will be: Angola, Belgium, Brittany, Burkina Faso (A, B, C), Cameroons, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gabon, Japan, Mali, Morocco, Sarthe, Senegal, Yvelines, Zimbabwe and a mixed team from Benin, Niger and Togo.

If the bad preparation is to blame, it was mainly the number of possible winners that maybe prevented the Burkina team from applying a good strategy. While in 2005, they had rapidly controlled the Cameroon menace and only had to focus on Karel Pattyn, this time they had to deal with a far bigger number of rivals. Belgians, Moroccans, Egyptians, Cameroon and Brittany riders all showed at a moment or another that their victory ambitions were legitimate. In such a context, one needs to have the means to take command of the race and not the slightest mistake is allowed."
